    Review Fee Schedule

Fee Schedule: UConn Health IRB Review and UConn Health Human Subjects Protection Program (HSPP) Local Oversight

Human Subjects Protection Program charges the following fees for local oversight and, when applicable, IRB review of externally sponsored and authored research studies[1]. Research projects that are supported by external sources but not authored by those sources (e.g., investigator-initiated projects with external support) are not subject to the fee schedule.   Click here to download a copy of the fee schedule.

Type of Submission: When UConn Health IRB serves as the IRB of Record When External IRB[2] serves as the IRB of Record
    Initial Submission of Non-Exempt Research $ 4,000 $1,000
Exemption or NOT Human Subjects Research Determination $0 $0
    Continuing Review $0 $0
    Modification: Full Board $0 $0
    Modification: Expedited $0 $0
    Modification: Personnel $0 $0
Modification: Change of the PI $0 $0
Review of Reportable New Information $0 $0
    Closure $0 $0

    Additional Considerations:

    • Review fees are non-negotiable and non-refundable and are not contingent upon a fully executed Clinical Trial Agreement (CTA), IRB Approval of the Study, or Site Initiation.
    • When studies are reviewed by external (non-UConn Health) IRB, the HSPP maintains responsibility for reviewing for compliance with institutional requirements for human subjects research and to provide any necessary applicable local considerations to the External IRB. The HSPP charges are applied at the time of initial local review.  IRB Fees charged by the External IRB are not included in the above. Study sponsors are responsible for applicable review charges imposed by the respective External IRB.

[1] Exceptions include externally supported and authored studies where the originating funding source is considered federal. Other exceptions may be granted. Contact irb@uchc.edu.

[2] External IRB means a non-UConn Health IRB. While the term generally refers to commercial IRBs, it could also include another external IRB. Study sponsors are expected to pay IRB fees to such External (non-UConn Health) IRBs directly.
